Copious amounts of food, sleep, family, and chocolate, and - in some cases - wine, were the order of the day. And, of course, the Easter Bunny left us with lots of treats to find on our easter egg hunt. My nephew Dawson was distracted from the eggs by the plentiful pinecones, also hidden on the ground. This is my sister Roberta, either stealing chocolates or posing as the Easter Bunny, I can't remember which.

We tried valiantly to treat the weekend like the start of summer, despite the really not-summer-like weather. Scott and I slept in the un-insulated 'toolshed' rather than the cabin, mainly for sanity reasons rather than warmth... with a 2 year old and a 2 month old inside the house, we figured 6 degree temperatures be damned, we'd probably get more rest outside anyway. But the first night was pretty chilly. We also headed to the beach a few times, but I was usually huddled up behind a log trying to avoid the biting wind. However, the cold didn't stop Dawson and my Mom from happily building sandcastles.

Galiano had it's inevitable effect on me which is to make me insanely sleepy and need to nap regularly. It's crazy how much sleep I need (and get) on Galiano... it's like some strange Rip-van-winkle-effect. My cousin Meghan who lives on the island corraborated my theory that the island is very sleep-inducing, as she finds herself in the same boat after being away from the island for some time. But apparently "you get used to it".
The one person who got the least sleep was Dawson, who motored non-stop all weekend, completely distracted by all the people, attention, toys and other cool stuff. But at the end of the weekend after all the excitement was over, he was out like a light even before his dad drove the truck onto the ferry.
