At competition

Yesterday I visited my first Olympic competion, the Nordic Combined 10km.
Nordic Combined means that competitors jump off the ski jump in the morning, and whoever jumps furthest gets a headstart on the 10km of cross country skiing with staggered starts for the rest of the competitors depending on their jump distance. Then, whoever makes it across the finish line first, wins. A crazy idea for a race that only Norwegians in the dead of winter could have come up with.
It was an exciting cross country race with the initial leader tripping and falling early on, losing his advantage pretty quickly. From there, an American appeared to have a strong lead for much of the race (pictured above) but lost gold to the French competitor in the last few metres before the finish line.
It was a fun day: I'll post more photos to flickr soon.
